Anger Management

Managing our anger can be an uphill battle, where we are stuck against of constant barrage of irritation. In counseling, managing anger is a matter of slowing down our reactions and training our mind to come back to the present. Finally we can find peace of mind because we know how to let go.

Lack of Motivation & the Avoidance Trap

One of the biggest challenges for men in today's fast and disconnected culture, is a lack of purpose. You can find purpose through counseling by exploring the truth inherent in your experience. Seeing the futility of entertainment and isolation, we have the opportunity to see the possibilities that are right in front of us.

The Tug of War of Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are two sides of the same coin. In counseling we can explore both the cause of these psychological afflictions but also strategies for relief. We may find that depression and anxiety are ways we have used to avoid sadness deep in our hearts.

Co-dependent Relationships

Co-dependence is a common dynamic in relationships, where partners are emotionally over-reliant on each other. How can we begin to be independent and eventually interdependent emotionally? Once we take accountability for our emotions, we are likely to find that our partner begins to join us in this healthier dynamic.

Substance Abuse & Addictive Behavior Counseling

Substance abuse is a epidemic in our American society. We are surrounded by suggestion that taking substances are a way to deal with our challenges and pain. Over time and with gentle diligence & discipline,  we can discover our contentment in sobriety or responsible use.

The Challenge of Fatherhood

Fatherhood is naturally one of the biggest challenges to face. You have a therapist who is in your corner for support while you are dedicated to raising your kids as best you can.

Grief

Loss in life is a given, whether it is a loved one, or even our old way of life. Grief when it is avoided or unappreciated, becomes a burden that haunts us. While healthy grief is a way of honoring our past so that we can move forward with meaning & purpose.

Insecurity & Self-Sabatoge

Self-sabotage is common when we are insecure about our purpose and direction in life. How can we start where we are and find our greatest ally is right under our noes?

Loneliness & Isolation

Loneliness is a common experience especially for young men today. In counseling, we can share in the challenge of isolation and find a direction forward.

What To expect from Therapy:

Although clients can experience a variety of outcomes, counseling can help them achieve greater mental health. How does this work?

First off, you are beginning the process by seeking out help. To do that, you, like many clients, have the humility to take this first step. And while you both first meet, it's a good time to be clear about why you are seeking help.  It serves you in the end to be transparent about your expectations so that your time is used most wisely.  And if it is not a good fit, please don't worry, Nathan can refer you to several fellow clinicians that may be more of what you are looking for.

Mental health counseling is about a healthy relationship, and when it is healthy, the counselor is like a mirror that reflects your inherent clarity and sanity.  Your initial investment in time and motivation for healthy change will lead to greater results. It's recommended to schedule at least of two months of regular sessions to increase this possibility of reaching your potential.

Regarding closure, we can collaborate on an appropriate ending. The therapeutic journey is a fortunate process to go through where pain, confusion and repression transforms into clarity, love and growth.

A little bit about Nathan Railla: After graduating from Naropa University in Boulder, CO, he spent over 7 years serving the Colorado community.  Especially men, teens and their families, he specialized in contemplative therapy which uses meditation to cultivate awareness that leads to clarity. He also was trained in and practiced restorative justice, specifically utilizing it with teenagers to learn to be accountable for harm caused to the community. Many families worked with me to resolve their challenges that included addiction, anger management, relationship challenges, infidelity, depression, anxiety, and many other relational and emotional hurdles.

After 15 years of experience in both Colorado & Vermont, I am committed to supporting Colorado residents online.  It's an honor to assist you on your journey towards wellness.
